It is Well

In life, I can feel like I am “lost in the wilderness” - I feel lost and alone, depressed, or scared. The viewer is looking at a portrait of me in the dark wilderness. However, I am not sad or frightened – I am content. The concept of this peace is being internally content in a chaotic, scary, external world. The best version of myself is completely at peace internally, no matter the circumstances surrounding me in the external world.  My personal peace does not come from anything from this world, but from promises Jesus Christ has given to us. I named this piece after a hymn “It is Well”, which I heard ever since I was a child. One of the verses reads;

“when peace like a river attendeth my way

When sorrow like sea billows roll

Whatever my lot, Thou hast taught me to say

It is well, it is well with my soul”

No matter what comes my way, it is well with my soul. Through the good and the bad, it is well with my soul. This is because my soul rests in Jesus and the promises of life he has given to each of us.  Joshua 1:9 says “Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” God is with me always, in the mountains and valleys of life. My home travels in my soul wherever I go, therefore my ultimate joy does not depend on external things, but the internal.
